Edelman helped a major apparel retailer defend itself against claims that one of its products caused skin rashes. Working with the company’s legal and communications teams, we helped deflect rumors and reassure the public that its products are safe.

More than two decades ago, Edelman pioneered litigation support communications representing CBS in Westmoreland v. CBS. Today, the firm is recognized as a leader in the marketplace with our international network of attorneys, crisis communications counselors, former journalists and political strategists providing counsel to companies involved in high-profile litigation.

Often working with clients’ own legal teams, our litigation communications professionals build on legal strategies to help companies navigate the intersection of law and the court of public opinion. Edelman knows how to create and execute plans to protect a company’s most valuable asset – its reputation. We work with clients to develop and communicate messages that resonate beyond the courtroom, leverage support from third-party advocates and define litigation in their terms.

Edelman has a depth of experience helping clients meet communications challenges often associated with complex litigation. We've managed communications in connection with class action suits, alleged antitrust violations, government investigations, commercial disputes, medical malpractice, bankruptcy, toxic torts, labor issues, intellectual property disputes, as well as shareholder lawsuits and disaster cases.

Examples of our success include:

• When a D.C.-based consumer advocacy group threatened to file a lawsuit to ban the sale of carbonated soft drinks in schools, Edelman helped guide the beverage industry through the litigious and legislative gauntlet created by activists and former tobacco plaintiffs’ attorneys.

• Edelman helped protect the brand of a U.S.-based coal mining company that successfully defended itself in a civil suit under the Alien Tort Claims Act. Both before and during the month-long trial, Edelman litigation specialists worked closely with the client’s lawyers to level a playing field that had been tilted against the client.

• Edelman assisted a New Jersey hospital system in preparing for and managing potential negative fall-out in connection with an investigation by the U.S. Attorney and U.S. Department of Justice of Medicare reimbursements.
